  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Charged with loss, blown save

Detmers (3-3) took the loss and the blown save Friday against Detroit, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning. He struck out one.

It was the fourth blown save of the season for Detmers, who has struggled quite a bit lately after going without an earned run allowed over 13 innings back in June. While the left-hander does have a strong 1.06 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB over his last 16 frames, he has a 5.63 ERA during that span since the beginning of July. Detmers' recent shortcomings could open the door for Andrew Chafin and/or Luis Garcia to handle more high-leverage work going forward.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Not expected to join rotation

Detmers probably won't be moving into the Angels' rotation despite the demotion of Jack Kochanowicz to the minors, per Aaron Coloma of SI.com.

Kochanowicz and Detmers battled for the fifth starter role in spring training, with the former ultimately getting the role. However, Kochanowicz has struggled to a 6.03 ERA over 19 starts and was sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. When asked ahead of that demotion whether Detmers could be an option to move from the bullpen into a starting role, interim manager Ray Montgomery stated, "I would hate to say no to anything, but I don't think that's going to happen." Detmers has thrived in a setup role -- though he has posted a mediocre 4.15 ERA on the campaign, that is largely due to a horrific three-outing stretch in late April and early May during which he allowed 12 runs over one-third of an inning. Since then, the lefty has emerged as one of the Angels' top high-leverage options, posting a 1.24 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 38:13 K:BB over 29 frames spanning 28 appearances while recording eight holds and two saves.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Earns second save

Detmers earned the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the A's, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

With Kenley Jansen unavailable after pitching back-to-back days, Detmers was tasked with protecting a one-run lead against the top of the A's batting order in the ninth. The left-hander was up to the task, retiring the side on just 10 pitches while striking out a pair. Detmers has impressed in a high-leverage role recently -- he's now held opponents scoreless in 11 straight innings, allowing just six hits while striking out 18 in that span. Detmers has two saves on the season while lowering his ERA to 5.22 with a 1.53 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB across 29.1 innings.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Thriving in high-leverage role

Detmers earned a hold against Seattle on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning.

Detmers handled the seventh frame with the Angels up by two runs. The left-hander began the campaign working in a lower-leverage role and had a 10.05 ERA with no holds or saves through his first 12 appearances, but since then he's turned things around, surrendering just one run over his last 12 outings covering 13 innings while posting a 19:7 K:BB. He's become one of the Angels' top high-leverage options, picking up six holds and one save across his past nine appearances.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Collects extra-inning save

Detmers struck out two in a perfect 10th inning Tuesday to record his first career save in a 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

Kenley Jansen handled the ninth inning to keep the game tied at 3-3, and when the Angels pushed a run across in the top of the 10th, manager Ron Washington brought in Detmers to face Boston's 5-6-7 hitters. The southpaw was up to the task, fanning Carlos Narvaez and Trevor Story while firing nine of 11 pitches for strikes. Detmers is emerging as a high-leverage weapon for the Halos in his first season working out of the bullpen, and over his last 10 appearances he's produced a 0.82 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB in 11 innings while racking up one win, one save and four holds.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Nabs victory in relief

Detmers (1-2) earned the win over the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out two batters over two innings.

Detmers entered in the sixth frame with runners on second and third and no outs after Hector Neris allowed all three batters he faced to reach base. Though he yielded an infield single and a walk, Detmers did a good job limiting the damage, allowing just one of the inherited runners to cross the plate while inducing a key double play groundout off the bat of Shohei Ohtani. Detmers continued into the seventh and gave up a run of his own, but he still received credit for the win on a day when he was the most effective Angels reliever aside from closer Kenley Jansen. Detmers recently went through an awful stretch during which he allowed 12 earned runs while retiring just one batter over a three-outing span, but the lefty has been better since then, yielding just one run while posting a 5:3 K:BB across four innings over his past three appearances.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Trounced by Seattle

Detmers (0-1) gave up five runs on five hits without recording an out in relief to take the loss Wednesday against the Mariners.

Detmers entered in the seventh inning with the scored tied 2-2. The lefty was initially unlucky as the first two batters he faced reach on an infield single and a bunt single, respectively, but Detmers then gave up three more consecutive knocks -- including a Julio Rodriguez double -- and was pulled having failed to record an out. In total, five runs were charged to Detmers' line, pushing his season ERA all the way up to 5.79. The first-round pick of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft is transitioning to a relief role this season and had been pitching well prior to getting blown up Wednesday, as he entered the contest against Seattle with a 2.57 ERA and 14:5 K:BB over 14 innings.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Beginning 2025 in bullpen

Angels manager Ron Washington said Monday that Detmers will open the 2025 season in the bullpen, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Detmers had been competing against Jack Kochanowicz for the final spot in the Angels' rotation. With Kochanowicz winning the job, Detmers will work out of the Halos' bullpen and could be used as a long reliever, per Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Detmers worked in relief in each of his last three spring outings and allowed four runs (three earned) on 11 hits and two walks while striking out 13 across 11.2 frames.
