Lawlar (hamstring) will take live batting practice Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Lawlar has been sidelined since suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain in late June, but he'll take a major step in his recovery Tuesday. Manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that the plan would be to then have Lawlar get into some sort of game situation Thursday. Once healthy, the 23-year-old won't likely have to wait long to join the major-league roster after Arizona dealt starting third baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Mariners ahead of the trade deadline last week.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Lawlar is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and will be out for "weeks," Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Lawlar suffered the injury while playing for Triple-A Reno, and he will miss extended time. A previous report indicated Lawlar would be out for at least a month, and Lovullo's words seem to back up that assessment.

Lawlar was placed on Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list Thursday due to a hamstring injury, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
Lawlar dealt with a hamstring issue last week into the beginning of this week, but he was back in Reno's lineup Wednesday. However, the talented young shortstop logged just one at-bat in his return before he was lifted, and he's now landed on the minor-league IL. Per Sommers, Lawlar will miss at least a month due to the injury, so he won't be back in action until late July, at the earliest.

Lawlar has been out of action for Reno since last Thursday due to a sore hamstring, but he didn't require a stint on the injured list and is now back in action for the Triple-A club. The Diamondbacks are optimistic Eugenio Suarez (hand) will be able to avoid the 10-day injured list, but if he can't, Lawlar is an option to take his roster spot and get some playing time at the hot corner with the big club. Lawlar has not been placed on the 7-day injured list, so Reno appears to be viewing him as day-to-day at this point. However, the injury could prevent Lawlar from being considered for a promotion in the event Eugenio Suarez's hand injury is worse than expected. Lawlar has gone 0-for-19 at the major-league level this season but boasts a .997 OPS with 10 home runs and 18 steals over 52 games with Reno.

Lawlar has gone 18-for-63 (.286) with 10 extra-base hits, 14 RBI, five steals and 11 runs scored over 15 games since being sent back to Triple-A Reno. He's started at shortstop (nine starts), third base (five) and second base (one).
Lawlar had a rough go of it in the majors during a brief call-up in May, but he's overcome that disappointment and continued to produce at the Triple-A level. Lawlar has a .321/.411/.586 slash line with 19 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 45 RBI, 18 steals and 49 runs over 249 plate appearances for the Aces this season.
Lawlar went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a home run and four RBI for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
Lawlar, who returned to the minors after a hitless eight-game stretch in the majors in May, continues to have success at Reno. He went without a hit in his first game back with the Aces but is 5-for-9 with two extra-base hits and two walks in his last two contests. The Diamondbacks currently sit fourth in the NL West and four games back of the final playoff spot. There's potential for them to be sellers at the trade deadline, and if that happens, Lawlar could return and have an everyday role. Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez are both free agents at the end of the season.
The Diamondbacks optioned Lawlar to Triple-A Reno on Thursday, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix reports.
Lawlar earned a promotion to the big leagues May 12 after slashing .336/.413/.579 through 173 plate appearances in Triple-A. However, he failed to record a hit over 19 at-bats at the MLB level and never had a clear path to playing time with the Diamondbacks, so he'll head back to the minors. Ildemaro Vargas signed a major-league contract with Arizona on Thursday and will fill Lawlar's place on the active roster.

Lawlar started at second base in place of Ketel Marte (illness) and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 9-6 loss to Pittsburgh.
Lawlar has now gone hitless with eight strikeouts in his 18 plate appearances since being called up from Triple-A Reno on May 12. He's had a tough go of it against off-speed offerings, particularly sliders, in a small sample size. The lack of steady playing time could be making it difficult for Lawlar to make adjustments, though he could get the chance to make a couple more starts if Marte's illness lingers for a few more days.
