Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Slated to start Thursday
Sorokin is expected to start on the road during Thursday's preseason game against Philadelphia, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin will get the nod during the Islanders' preseason finale, and he previously indicated that he hoped to play in two full games ahead of the regular season, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him stay in net for the entirety of the matchup. The 30-year-old should serve as the Islanders' No. 1 netminder once the regular season begins after he went 30-24-6 with a 2.71 GAA and .907 save percentage over 61 regular-season appearances last year.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Starting Friday
Sorokin will defend the home goal versus New Jersey on Friday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin was outstanding last season, posting a 30-24-6 record with a 2.71 GAA and a .907 save percentage across 61 games. He could shoulder a similar workload in 2025-26 if Semyon Varlamov's knee injury lingers throughout the season.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Good effort not enough
Sorokin stopped 33 of 35 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Capitals. The third goal was an empty-netter.
Sorokin played well, but a pair of Dylan Strome goals over the first two periods accounted for the difference. Strome also scored an empty-netter. Sorokin lost for the first time in four outings and is now 30-24-6 with a 2.71 GAA and a .907 save percentage over 61 outings. It's not quite the level of play he had in his first three NHL seasons, but this season has been better than last year for Sorokin. The Islanders have not yet named their starter for Thursday's season finale versus the Blue Jackets.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Leaves ice first
Sorokin was the first goalie to exit the ice Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home against the Caps.
Sorokin is coming off a 25-save shutout victory over the Devils on Sunday, his fourth shutout of the year. If the 29-year-old backstop can secure a victory versus Washington, he will match his career high of 31 wins from back in 2022-23 and could set a new personal best if he also gets the nod against the Jackets on the road Thursday.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Earns shutout in New Jersey
Sorokin registered a 25-save shutout in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Devils.
The shutout was Sorokin's fourth of the season, and he has now reached the 30-win mark for the second time in the last three years. This was the Russian netminder's first start since missing two games due to a lower-body injury, and the time off didn't affect the groove he's in this month -- the 29-year-old is 3-1-0 with a .930 save percentage and a 1.93 GAA over five appearances in April. The Islanders are eliminated from postseason contention, and with just two games remaining on their schedule, it's possible Sorokin splits starts with Marcus Hogberg to close out 2024-25.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Returning Sunday
Sorokin (lower body) will get the start Sunday on the road against the Devils, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Sorokin will be back between the pipes after missing the Islanders' previous two games due to a lower-body injury. The 29-year-old Sorokin is 29-23-6 on the year with a .905 save percentage and 2.77 GAA.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Still sidelined
Sorokin (lower body) is unavailable Saturday against the Flyers, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Sorokin will miss a second straight game as he recovers from a lower-body injury. Marcus Hogberg will get the start against the Flyers with Tristan Lennox backing him up. The Islanders will have three remaining regular-season games after Saturday -- the earliest Sorokin could return is Sunday against the Devils.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Won't play against Rangers
Sorokin (lower body) has been ruled out for Thursday's home game against the Rangers, NHL.com reports.
Sorokin sustained a lower-body injury during Tuesday's game against the Predators, and head coach Patrick Roy said Thursday that the netminder doesn't have a timetable to return. The Islanders have just four games remaining on their regular-season schedule following Thursday's matchup, so it's unclear whether Sorokin will return to game action before the end of the regular season. Marcus Hogberg will likely serve as the Islanders' primary netminder in Sorokin's absence, while Tristan Lennox will be available as a backup.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Suffering from lower-body injury
Head coach Patrick Roy said Thursday that Sorokin is out with a lower-body injury, not a back issue, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Sorokin is expected to miss Thursday's tilt versus the Rangers. He is 29-23-6 with a 2.77 GAA and a .905 save percentage over 59 appearances this season. Look for Marcus Hogberg to start Thursday with emergency callup Tristan Lennox as the backup goaltender. Consider Sorokin day-to-day at this time.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Absent from practice Thursday
Sorokin (upper body) missed Thursday's game-day skate, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, indicating he won't be available at home versus the Rangers.
The Islanders haven't made any official announcements yet on a netminder for Thursday's matchup, but Sorokin's absence would seem to indicate that Marcus Hogberg will get the nod while the recently recalled Tristan Lennox serves as the backup. Considering Sorokin has played in 28 of the Isles' last 32 games -- going 16-9-2 with a 2.65 GAA -- they almost certainly would have continued to give him a heavy workload until they are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Leaves Tuesday's game
Sorokin (upper body) exited Tuesday's game versus the Predators prior to the third period, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Sorokin got run into in his crease during the second period. He allowed four goals on 23 shots prior to his exit, but Sorokin was not on the bench when Marcus Hogberg took over in goal to begin the third period, which suggests an injury is the concern. The Islanders are unlikely to make the playoffs with or without Sorokin given the Canadiens' surge up the standings, but Sorokin's status looms large over the final week of the campaign.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Between pipes in Music City
Sorokin will defend the road net Tuesday against the Predators.
Sorokin has allowed a total of two goals on 57 shots over back-to-back wins against Minnesota and Washington. The Russian netminder has not fared well against the Predators in his career, owning a 1-3-1 record, .885 save percentage and 2.97 GAA over five appearances. Nashville ranks last in the NHL with 2.48 goals per game in 2024-25 and has netted exactly one goal in four of its last five matchups, all of which have been losses.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Wins but gives up historic goal
Sorokin stopped 28 of 29 shots in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Capitals.
Sorokin was sharp, but the one goal he allowed will be on highlight reels forever, as it was Alex Ovechkin's record-breaking 895th career goal. This was the first time the Capitals' sharpshooter put a puck past Sorokin, a remarkable run of success for the goalie against the league's best-ever scorer. Sorokin will be happy to take the win Sunday, improving to 29-23-6 on the year while keeping the Islanders' slim hopes of a playoff spot alive. He's added a 2.73 GAA and a .906 save percentage over 57 contests. Sorokin is likely to start again Tuesday in Nashville.

Sorokin will guard the home net Sunday against the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin was sharp in his last outing, turning aside 27 of 28 shots in a 3-1 victory over the Wild to snap a four-game losing streak. The 29-year-old netminder is 28-23-6 with a .905 save percentage and 2.76 GAA on the campaign. Sorokin will have a tough matchup against a Washington team that's averaging a league-best 3.62 goals per game.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Quiets Wild
Sorokin stopped 27 of 28 shots in Friday's 3-1 win over the Wild.
Sorokin snapped a four-game losing streak with one of his best games in the last two months. The 29-year-old limited the damage to a Mats Zuccarello tally in the second period. Sorokin's recent struggles have torpedoed the Islanders' playoff chances, but he's still 28-23-6 with a 2.76 GAA and a .905 save percentage across 57 appearances. Next up will be a tough matchup versus the Capitals on Sunday. Assuming he gets the start, Sorokin will look to maintain his status as one of the few goalies Alex Ovechkin hasn't scored on, while the Capitals' captain tries to take sole possession of the all-time goals record.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Exits ice first Friday
Sorokin was the first goalie to leave the ice Friday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home versus Minnesota.
Sorokin is mired in a personal four-game losing streak, during which he is 0-3-1 with a 3.76 GAA, while the Islanders have dropped six in a row (0-4-2). The 29-year-old netminder is stuck just three victories shy of getting back to the 30-win mark after missing that threshold last season. With New York not technically eliminated from playoff contention -- though running out of time to get there -- Sorokin could see extra work down the stretch.
