NHL coaching carousel 2025: Stars hire Glen Gulutzan to replace Peter DeBoer
The Stars have jumped on the carousel after firing DeBoer

The NHL coaching carousel may finally be at its end. The Dallas Stars hired Glen Gulutzan to replace Peter DeBoer, the team announced on Tuesday.
This will be Gulutzan's first coaching job since 2018, but he has served as an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers for the last siz seasons. In a statement, Dallas general manager Jim Nill says Gulutzan has grown a lot since his first stint with the Stars from 2011-13.
"We are thrilled to name Glen as the head coach of the Dallas Stars," Nill said. "Since his previous time in Dallas, Glen has worked tirelessly to establish himself as one of the most respected coaches in the NHL. His extensive NHL experience, both as a head coach and assistant coach, speaks to his ability to innovate and adapt to the modern game, as well as build relationships with his players. Glen has worked with some of the best players in the world and continually found ways to maximize their skill sets to contribute to team success. We have full confidence that he is the right person to elevate our team to the next level."
Dallas gave Gulutzan his first coaching opportunity in 2011, but it didn't quite work out. Gulutzan led the team to a 64-57-9 record with no playoff appearances. Gulutzan also coached the Calgary Flames from 2016-18, and there he compiled an 82-68-14 record. He did take the Flames to the playoffs in 2017, but they were swept by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round.
Elsewhere around the coaching carousel, the Pittsburgh Penguins hired former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse. The Seattle Kraken brought in former New York Islanders coach Lane Lambert, the Canucks promoted assistant Adam Foote, and Rick Tocchet returned to the Philadelphia Flyers as the franchise's new coach.
With Gulutzan being hired, all of the NHL's coaching vacancies have been filled.
