  • Timberwolves' Tristen Newton: Double-double in SL loss

Newton contributed 24 points (8-12 FG, 6-9 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals across 33 minutes in Saturday's 104-101 Summer League loss to the Rockets. Newton did almost all he could Saturday, notching a double-double with points and assists, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. The guard appeared in eight brief regular-season games with the Pacers and Timberwolves during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring in just one of those outings.

  • Timberwolves' Tristen Newton: Rejoins parent club

The Timberwolves recalled Newton from the G League's Iowa Wolves on Sunday. Newton will rejoin the parent club ahead of its game against Cleveland on Monday. Since being claimed off waivers from the Pacers on Jan. 3, Newton has made just one one-minute appearance for Minnesota.

  • Timberwolves' Tristen Newton: Headed to Minnesota

The Timberwolves claimed Newton off waivers from the Pacers on Friday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. Newton had previously been playing on a two-way deal with the Pacers, but after being claimed by Minnesota, he'll now join Jaylen Clark and Jesse Edwards as the Timberwolves' two-way players. The rookie point guard previously made five appearances with the Pacers spanning just eight minutes, with most of his playing time coming in the G League. Newton will likely continue to see the bulk of his minutes in the G League with the Iowa Wolves in his new organization.

  • Pacers' Tristen Newton: Scores 17 points in SL

Newton logged 17 points (3-9 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 9-10 FT), six rebounds, four assists and two steals across 27 minutes of Saturday's 100-93 loss to the Cavaliers in Summer League. Newton took on a larger offensive role due to Johnny Furphy, Ben Sheppard and Jarace Walker sitting out. While he struggled from long range, Newton had no troubles getting to the basket and drawing fouls, attempting a game-high 10 free throws. A second round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Newton isn't expected to see regular action with the Pacers as a rookie.

  • Pacers' Tristen Newton: Drafted by Pacers in second round

Newton was selected by the Pacers with the No. 49 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The senior guard from UConn will add a defensive presence to a Pacers team that lacked it throughout the season. He should be a pesky on-ball defender to opposing guards with his 6-foot-3 frame, which includes a 6-foot-7 wingspan. Offensively, it's a mixed bag. Newton's three-ball is inconsistent, and while he's crafty around the rim, he's not much of a vertical athlete, which could cause issues in the NBA. It's not a guarantee he'll be an every night rotation player for Indiana, but he could see spot minutes in certain matchups.
