Marlins' Connor Gillispie: Pushed off 40-man
Rotowire
The Marlins designated Gillispie for assignment Thursday.
The 27-year-old lost his place in Miami's rotation in late April after posting an 8.65 ERA through six starts, and he'll now also lose his spot on the 40-man roster with Robinson Pina joining the Marlins' bullpen Thursday. Gillispie has turned in a 4.28 ERA over 33.2 innings in the minors this year, though his underwhelming MLB resume may prevent other teams from taking a chance on him.

Marlins' Connor Gillispie: Five strong innings against Mets
Rotowire
Gillispie didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mets after allowing one run on four hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out six.
Facing a vaunted Mets lineup, Gillispie produced better results than when he gave up four runs in five frames during his first start of the year against Pittsburgh. Other than an RBI double from Pete Alonso in the first inning, it was rather smooth sailing for Gillispie. The 27-year-old right-hander threw just 73 pitches Wednesday, so he'll search for more length in his next scheduled start, which is scheduled to be a road rematch with the Mets early next week.

Marlins' Connor Gillispie: Takes loss against Pirates
Rotowire
Gillispie (0-1) surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits in five innings, with four punchouts and four walks while taking the loss to the Pirates on Friday.
Making his first career start in the show, Gillispie kept the Pirates off the board through three innings and was pitching well, but the tide turned in the fourth inning. The 27-year-old issued back-to-back walks to Oneil Cruz and Joey Bart before veteran Andrew McCutchen delivered an RBI double to left, which scored Cruz. Bart would come around to score on a sacrifice fly a few batters later, and the righty allowed a two-run homer to Cruz an inning later. Gillispie had just eight career innings under his belt before this outing and is filling in for injured Marlins starters Edward Cabrera (finger) and Ryan Weathers (forearm). He is tentatively scheduled to pitch next week against the Mets.

Injuries to Edward Cabrera (finger) and Ryan Weathers (forearm) opened up a couple spots in Miami's rotation, and Gillispie stepped up in camp to claim one of them by posting a 0.75 ERA and 6:3 K:BB through 12 Grapefruit League innings. He's set to make his Marlins debut March 30 against the Pirates.

Guardians' Connor Gillispie: Sent back to Triple-A
Rotowire
The Guardians optioned Gillispie to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
Gillispie was brought up to the big club Sunday and gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three over three innings of relief in his MLB debut in Cleveland's 9-5 loss to Baltimore. Since he was unlikely to be available out of the bullpen for at least the next couple of days, Gillispie will move off the active roster to clear room for Logan Allen, who was called up from Columbus to start Monday against the Diamondbacks. Gillispie has logged a 4.01 ERA across 89.2 innings for Columbus this season.
