  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Grabbing seat Wednesday

Kirk is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Colorado. Kirk started at catcher in each of the last three games after returning from the 7-day injured list, so he'll get some rest during Wednesday's matinee. Tyler Heineman will be behind the dish and bat eighth as Toronto goes for the sweep.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Comes off 7-day IL

The Blue Jays reinstated Kirk (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at catcher and bat sixth against the Royals. The backstop had a minimum-length stay on the shelf after being struck on the facemask by a foul tip last weekend. The 26-year-old Kirk will step back in as Toronto's No. 1 backstop after slashing .304/.361/.413 with seven home runs, 47 RBI and 27 runs over 88 games prior to landing on the IL.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Tracking toward return Sunday

Kirk (concussion) is tentatively on track to play a rehab game with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday before being activated from the 7-day injured list Sunday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Kirk was diagnosed with a concussion after taking a foul tip off the mask in a game this past weekend. However, he has recovered well since then, and as long as he keeps progressing well, he'll be in line for a minimum-length absence. Tyler Heineman has been handling the primary catching duties for the Blue Jays since Kirk went down.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Goes on concussion IL

The Blue Jays placed Kirk on the 7-day injured list Sunday after he was diagnosed with a concussion. After being struck in the catcher's mask by a foul tip in the third inning Saturday, Kirk was pulled from the contest and sent in for further evaluation. With tests confirming a concussion, he won't be eligible to return until at least Aug. 3, though fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if Kirk needs more than a week to exit the concussion protocol. Ali Sanchez was called up from Triple-A Buffalo to provide the Blue Jays with another option behind the plate, but Tyler Heineman will handle starting duties in Kirk's absence.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Being evaluated for concussion

Kirk is undergoing tests to determine if he has a concussion after he took a foul tip off his mask Saturday versus Detroit, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Kirk initially remained behind the plate after being dinged by the foul tip, but he was pulled for a pinch hitter in the following frame. Should Kirk need to miss any games moving forward, Tyler Heineman figures to step in as Toronto's starting backstop.

Kirk (undisclosed) was removed from Saturday's game against Detroit after taking a foul tip off his mask in the third inning, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Kirk initially remained in the game on defense after taking the foul tip, but he was removed for a pinch hitter in the following frame. The Blue Jays will presumably provide an update on the reason for Kirk's removal during or shortly after Saturday's contest. Tyler Heineman stepped behind the plate for the Blue Jays and would likely take over as the team's primary backstop if Kirk needs to miss additional time.
