  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Returns from injured list

The Diamondbacks reinstated Beeks (back) from the 15-day injured list Friday. The left-hander landed on the shelf July 11 due to back inflammation but is ready to rejoin the Diamondbacks after one rehab outing with Triple-A Reno. Beeks has a 4.39 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 39:15 K:BB across 41 innings this season and should fill a high-leverage role for Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Starts up rehab assignment

Beeks (back) walked one batter and allowed no hits over a scoreless inning of relief in a rehab appearance Tuesday for Triple-A Reno. Beeks has been on the shelf since July 11 due to back inflammation, so he's not expected to require an extended rehab assignment before rejoining the Arizona bullpen. Depending on how he recovers from Tuesday's outing, Beeks could be reinstated in advance of the club's weekend series in Sacramento versus the Athletics.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Faces hitters

Beeks (back) threw a 23-pitch live batting practice session Friday, MLB.com reports. Beeks' live BP session follows two previous bullpen sessions. He's completed the 15-day minimum stay on the injured list and can be activated at any time, although a rehab assignment remains a possibility.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: On track to face hitters Friday

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Beeks (back) has a good chance at being cleared to face live hitters Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Beeks hasn't faced hitters since landing on the 15-day injured list just before the All-Star break with lower-back inflammation. It's unclear whether Beeks will need a rehab assignment before rejoining the Arizona bullpen.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Another bullpen on tap

Beeks (back) is slated to throw another bullpen session Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Beeks tossed a 23-pitch side session Saturday and appears to be closing in on a return from the 15-day injured list. The team has yet to announce whether he'll need a rehab assignment, as he may be ready to return after missing the minimum.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Throws bullpen

Beeks (back) threw a 23-pitch bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports. Prior to landing on the 15-day injured list with lower back inflammation, Beeks' name was mentioned in discussions about closing out games. Arizona's bullpen is beset with injuries, and it will continue to be when Beeks' minimum stay on the IL ends July 23. Any rehab assignment is expected to be a brief one.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: IL move official

The Diamondbacks placed Beeks on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 8, due to lower back inflammation. As manager Torey Lovullo indicated earlier Friday, Beeks will be shelved with back inflammation. The move opens up a spot for Kendall Graveman (hip) to rejoin the active roster. In 41 innings, Beeks has a 4.39 ERA and a 39:15 K:BB.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Going on IL

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Beeks will be placed on the injured list due to lower back inflammation, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports. Beeks hasn't pitched since July 6, and it's unclear when the injury popped up. The left-hander was expected to be in the mix for save opportunities while Shelby Miller (forearm) is on the shelf. However, it seems as though Kevin Ginkel will hold down closer duties. Kendall Graveman (hip) is expected to be activated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Could close games

Beeks is expected to be part of the mix of relievers that will garner save chances with Shelby Miller (forearm) on the 15-day injured list, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said he's going to "piece it together" when referring to the state of the team's closer. Kevin Ginkel got the first crack Monday, but Beeks has experience with 16 career saves, including 10 last season with Colorado and Pittsburgh. After a disastrous series against the Marlins a week ago (one inning, eight runs, four walks), Beeks has made three consecutive scoreless appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Rough weekend

Beeks (2-1) allowed five runs on two hits and four walks while striking out two in picking up the loss to the Marlins on Sunday. It was a rough weekend for the Diamondbacks' bullpen and Beeks in particular. The 'pen blew eighth-inning leads Saturday and Sunday, resulting in Miami's sweep of the series, with Beeks playing a starring role in both collapses. He allowed a combined eight runs on five hits and four walks over one inning. It was a startling turn for the right-hander, who entered the weekend with a 2.92 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 11 holds.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Holds lead Saturday

Beeks threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning to record a hold in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. Beeks needed seven pitches (five strikes) to mow down the top of Colorado's order and pick up his 10th hold before handing the ball off to closer Shelby Miller. Beeks has been money well spent by the Diamondbacks, who have navigated injuries and subpar performances in what was expected to be the late-game relief crew. He, Ryan Thompson and Miller have stepped in for Justin Martinez (elbow), A.J. Puk (elbow) and Kevin Ginkel (5.22 ERA). Beeks has a 2.97 ERA with 10 holds, one save and a 33:11 K:BB rate over 36.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Tallies first save

Beeks picked up the save in Sunday's 11-9 extra-inning win at Philadelphia, allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks with no strikeouts over one inning. After Shelby Miller coughed up a two-run lead in the ninth, Beeks was called upon in the 10th inning and bagged his first save since Sept. 11, 2024. The Arizona southpaw allowed the automatic runner to score but secured the victory on 20 total pitches. With Justin Martinez (shoulder) and A.J. Puk (elbow) on the injured list, Miller had looked like the presumptive closer; however, given Beeks' steady performance over 18.2 innings with a 1.93 ERA and 17:6 K:BB, he may garner additional save opportunities.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Yields three runs in return

Beeks (arm) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one over one inning in Saturday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to Atlanta. He was charged with a blown save. Beeks was hit by a comebacker Thursday versus the Rays, but his X-rays were negative, and he ultimately needed just one day off to recover. However, his performance Saturday was his worst of the season, as he threw 16 of 28 pitches for strikes and allowed Atlanta to rally for the lead in the eighth inning. This was just the second outing this season in which Beeks has given up a run, which has lifted him into a high-leverage role as a setup man over the last two weeks. He's posted a 2.25 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB while adding four holds and a 1-0 record over 16 innings. Beeks saw some late-inning work in 2024, logging 10 saves and eight holds between the Rockies and the Pirates, and A.J. Puk's recent elbow injury has further improved his standing in the Diamondbacks' bullpen heirarchy.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: X-rays negative

Beeks underwent X-rays on his forearm which came back negative, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Beeks was removed from Thursday's loss to the Rays after being struck by a comebacker but is not expected to miss any time. That's obviously good news for the Diamondbacks, who are already missing a couple key pieces in the bullpen. A recent report from Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic suggests A.J. Puk (elbow) is facing a lengthy absence, while Kevin Ginkel (shoulder) is hoping to be back by the end of April and Justin Martinez is experiencing fatigue. Beeks has not allowed a run over 10 appearances this month and sports a 0.60 ERA through 15 innings on the year.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Exits after comebacker

Beeks was struck in the left arm by a comebacker and exited Thursday's game against the Rays, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Beeks managed to get the out on the play but was removed quickly thereafter. The severity of the injury is unclear, but it would be bad news for an already shorthanded Arizona bullpen if Beeks misses any additional time.

  • Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Works eighth inning in win

Beeks walked one and struck out three over a scoreless inning to earn a hold in Thursday's 6-4 win over Miami. Beeks opened the eighth inning and walked the first batter he faced, then struck out the next three swinging. He continued a dominant start to the season and has earned high-leverage appearances. The left-hander picked up his second hold of the season and second in as many games. The 31-year-old Beeks lowered his ERA to 0.77 with a 13:3 K:BB over 11.2 frames.

  • Astros' Jalen Beeks: Inks deal with Houston

Beeks signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Beeks split time between the Rockies and Pirates last season, turning in a 4.50 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 70 total innings. The 31-year-old lefty may need a bit of time to build up before he makes his spring debut, but he should still be in the mix for Houston's Opening Day bullpen.

  • Pirates' Jalen Beeks: Dealt to Pittsburgh

The Pirates acquired Beeks from the Rockies on Monday in exchange for left-hander Luis Peralta, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Beeks will head to Pittsburgh after compiling a 4.74 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 38 strikeouts over 49.1 innings in 45 appearances with the Rockies so far this season. The left-hander has made the full-time switch to being a relief pitcher in 2024, going 9-for-16 on save opportunities while also securing five holds with Colorado. Beeks may serve in more of a middle-innings role after joining a more talented bullpen in Pittsburgh.

  • Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Notches fifth win

Beeks (5-4) blew the save and picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing an unearned run on two hits and zero walks while striking out one batter in two innings of work. Beeks came on in the 13th inning and allowed the ghost runner to score on an RBI single by Luis Robert, resulting in a blown save. The 30-year-old rebounded in the 14th inning, however, retiring the side in order to earn his fifth win of the season. Although Beeks was used in a high-leverage role Sunday, Tyler Kinley pitched two scoreless innings in the 11th and 12th and remains the preferred late-inning option for the Rockies. Beeks will continue to be in the mix for saves, but he is just 6-for-11 in save opportunities this season.
... See More ... See Less
  • Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Can't convert save chance

Beeks (4-4) blew the save and took the loss Sunday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on three hits with a strikeout across one inning. Beeks was given his first save opportunity since June 5 but couldn't come through for his seventh save of the campaign. Colorado led 1-0 heading into the ninth inning, but Beeks yielded an RBI double to Lane Thomas that plated CJ Abrams -- who advanced to second on a wild pitch -- before allowing Thomas to steal third and score on a two-out single by Joey Meneses. Although Beeks is 6-for-11 on save chances, he owns a 3.76 ERA and should still be in the mix with Tyler Kinley for saves as part of a shaky Rockies bullpen.
