Orioles' Maverick Handley: Going on rehab assignment
Rotowire
Handley (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Handley hasn't seen game action since June 22 due to a concussion and, more recently, a sprained right wrist. However, he's getting close to making a return, as he's set to see some game action this weekend. It's unclear how long of an assignment he'll require.

Orioles' Maverick Handley: Kicks off hitting progression
Rotowire
The Orioles announced Monday that Handley (wrist) has resumed swinging a bat, MLB.com reports.
Initially placed on the 7-day injured list June 23, Handley cleared concussion protocol a month later but was shifted to the 10-day IL last week while he continues to recover from a right wrist sprain. The backstop appears to have begun a hitting progression, but he'll still need to face live pitching in addition to proving that his throwing isn't impacted by the wrist injury before he gets cleared for a minor-league rehab assignment.
Handley is nearing the completion of the concussion protocol, but he's nursing a wrist injury and will visit with a specialist in the coming days, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Handley has been on the 7-day injured list since late June and evidently must have also hurt his wrist during a collision with the Yankees' Jazz Chisholm back on June 22. The Orioles haven't provided a timetable for his return from the IL.

Orioles' Maverick Handley: Exits Sunday after collision
Rotowire
Handley was removed from Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning following a collision at home plate and will receive a "full body" evaluation before the Orioles provide a diagnosis for his injury, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. "He got hit pretty hard. We haven't seen a collision like that at the plate probably since all the new rules came in. So we're evaluating him right now, full body, every part of it," Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said after the game.
After striking out in his lone plate appearance of the day in the top of the second, Handley was forced out of the contest when the Yankees' Jazz Chisholm violently barreled into him as Handley attempted to retrieve a throw down the third-base line and apply a tag. Gary Sanchez had been scheduled to receive Sunday off but ended up catching the rest of the game for the Orioles after Handley couldn't continue. Mansolino noted that Handley's full-body evaluation will include a concussion check.

Orioles' Maverick Handley: Dealing with hand injury
Rotowire
Handley was placed on the 7-day injured list Wednesday at Triple-A Norfolk with a hand contusion, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Handley has been an option to be a taxi squad catcher this season for the Orioles, though the team's acquisition of Luis Torrens will likely alleviate that need for now. Handley is slashing .222/.407/.267 with three RBI, 11 runs scored and a stolen base through 15 games with Norfolk.
