  • Braves' Erick Fedde: Struggles but emerges with win

Fedde (4-12) earned the victory against Miami on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four batters over five innings. It was far from a dominant performance by Fedde, who needed 102 pitches (only 60 of which were strikes) to get through five frames as he just barely qualified for the victory. The right-hander did at least hold Miami to one extra-base hit (a double), and he was scored upon in only one frame (the fourth, when the Marlins tallied all four of their runs and four of their five hits against him). Fedde's win was his first since May 9 versus Washington; in the interim, he went 0-9 with a 6.37 ERA. He's managed to keep a rotation spot among Atlanta's injury-ravaged starting staff regardless, and he's slated to next face Cleveland on the road.

  • Braves' Erick Fedde: Losing ways continue Monday

Fedde (3-12) took the loss Monday against Milwaukee, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks in 5.1 innings. He failed to record a strikeout. Monday marked the third time in his last six starts that Fedde was unable to register a punchout. The veteran right-hander has thrown at least five innings on just two occasions over his last seven outings, during which he owns a ghastly 10.73 ERA, 2.02 WHIP and 11:15 K:BB across 27.2 frames. Things may not get much easier for Fedde with a matchup at home versus the red-hot Marlins on tap for this weekend.

  • Braves' Erick Fedde: Penciled in to start Monday

Fedde is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Brewers in Atlanta, Olivia Sayer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Acquired from the Cardinals last Sunday, Fedde was called upon to fill one of the openings in an injury-plagued Atlanta rotation just two days later. In his team debut against the Royals on Tuesday, Fedde was dealt a loss while giving up four earned runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings, but the veteran right-hander will get at least one more opportunity to stake his claim to a more permanent stay in the rotation. He'll tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second appearance expected to come in one half of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Marlins.

  • Braves' Erick Fedde: Roughed up in Atlanta debut

Fedde (3-11) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings. Making his first start since being acquired by Atlanta, Fedde struggled to settle in, surrendering all four of his runs across the first two innings, including a solo home run to Vinnie Pasquantino in the opening frame. Fedde now owns a 5.33 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 66:49 K:BB across 106.1 innings this season. The 32-year-old will aim for a sharper outing in his next turn through the rotation, scheduled for early next week against Milwaukee.

  • Braves' Erick Fedde: Team debut coming Tuesday

Fedde will start Tuesday against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium in his Atlanta debut. Fedde was acquired from the Cardinals via trade Sunday to help supplement a rotation that's been decimated by injuries. The right-hander had been designated for assignment by St. Louis after he was torched for 26 earned runs with an 8:11 K:BB over his last 17.2 innings.

  • Braves' Erick Fedde: Dealt to Atlanta

Atlanta acquired Fedde from St. Louis on Sunday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Fedde has found a new home after being designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Wednesday, joining an Atlanta squad that's seen its starting pitching depth get decimated by injuries in recent weeks. The right-hander owns an inflated 5.22 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 101.2 innings in 20 starts on the season, and he had struggled mightily over his final five outings with the Cardinals, giving up 26 earned runs to go with an 8:11 K:BB in 17.2 innings. Atlanta transferred Grant Holmes (elbow) to the 60-day injured list to clear room on the 40-man roster for Fedde, who could immediately slot into Atlanta's rotation during the upcoming week.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: DFA'd by St. Louis

The Cardinals designated Fedde for assignment Wednesday. Fedde had been pummeled for 26 runs while posting an 8:11 K:BB over 17.2 innings over his last five starts, bringing his ERA up to 5.22 on the season. The veteran right-hander is likely to clear waivers and eventually become a free agent, with the Cardinals remaining on the hook for what's left of his $7.5 million salary. Michael McGreevy will replace Fedde in the St. Louis rotation.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Rotation spot in question

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol and pitching coach Dusty Blake planned to discuss Fedde's status in the rotation Tuesday after the righty struggled again in a loss to the Rockies, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Fedde was rocked for six runs on seven hits and one walk over three innings against the Rockies and holds a 9.64 ERA and 2.04 WHIP since June 13. The Cardinals had been hoping Fedde could right the ship and boost his trade value before the deadline, but at this point they would seem to have no choice but to replace him in the rotation with Michael McGreevy. The club should reveal its plans for Fedde in the coming days.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Struggles continue in 10th loss

Fedde (3-10) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk over three innings against the Rockies. He struck out five. The right-hander had a chance to bounce back against a struggling Rockies lineup but was instead tagged for damage, including home runs by Mickey Moniak and Ryan McMahon. Fedde is in the middle of a rough stretch, going 0-5 with a 9.64 ERA and 2.04 WHIP over 28 innings across seven starts since June 13. While he could still be a buy-low option for a contender at the trade deadline, his recent struggles have significantly diminished his potential trade value.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Struggles again Saturday

Fedde allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one batter over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Saturday. Fedde struggled from the outset, serving up two solo homers and three total runs over the first two innings. He settled down a bit thereafter but couldn't complete five frames, as he was pulled with two runners on base and two outs in the fourth. Fedde has struggled mightily over his past four starts, giving up 20 runs and surrendering six long balls over 14.2 innings during that stretch. The Cardinals were said to be considering removing the right-hander from the rotation in favor of Michael McGreevy following his previous start, and Fedde's tepid performance Saturday gives St. Louis further reason to move in that direction.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Staying in rotation for now

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Fedde will start Saturday's game against Atlanta, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals mulled replacing Fedde in the rotation with Michael McGreevy, but they've decided to give the former at least one more start. Fedde has been pummeled for 17 earned runs with a 2:9 K:BB over 10 innings covering his last three starts and will be on a short leash moving forward.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Penciled in for Saturday for now

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Fedde is tentatively scheduled to start Saturday versus Atlanta, but the team is "still working through conversations" regarding Fedde's spot in the rotation, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Fedde has been torched for 17 earned runs with a 2:9 K:BB over 10 innings covering his last three starts, and the Cardinals are considering replacing him in the rotation with Michael McGreevy. A decision regarding who will slot in Saturday against Atlanta should be announced within the next few days.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Pulled early Sunday

Fedde (3-9) allowed three runs on two hits and four walks while failing to record a strikeout over 1.1 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Cubs. Fedde needed 53 pitches (26 strikes) to get the four outs. After giving up seven runs in each of his last two outings, it looks like Fedde was on a short leash for this one. He's also walked nine batters over his last 10 innings, and his BB/9 on the year is at 4.3 through 18 starts. Fedde will have trouble getting things back on track if he continues to issue such a high number of free passes. He's added a 4.79 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 57:45 K:BB across 94 innings this season. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus Atlanta.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Clobbered again in loss

Fedde (3-8) took the loss Monday at Pittsburgh, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings with no strikeouts. Fedde conceded a leadoff homer to Spencer Horwitz in the first, and it was all downhill from there. The Pirates lineup peppered the St. Louis right-hander for 10 hits, matching Fedde's season-worst mark achieved when he also allowed seven runs against Milwaukee on April 27. With this disaster, the 32-year-old coughed up seven earned runs for the second consecutive start, as he failed to tally a K for the first time this season. Fedde is slated to carry a 4.56 ERA through 92.2 total innings into a difficult road matchup against the Cubs this weekend.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Bombarded in seventh loss

Fedde (3-7) was saddled with the loss Wednesday against the Cubs, giving up seven runs on eight hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out two. It was the second-shortest outing of the season for Fedde, who tied his season worst in runs allowed. The 32-year-old right-hander served up a season-high three home runs, and the eight hits against him were also his most allowed since his sixth start of the year back on April 27. Fedde will take a pedestrian 4.11 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 57:38 K:BB over 87.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance against the Pirates, who have MLB's lowest OPS (.636) since the beginning of May.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Free passes piling up

Fedde didn't factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four hits and four walks over 5.1 scoreless innings during a 2-1 win over the Dodgers. He struck out two. The righty once again had trouble finding the plate consistently, tossing only 52 of 99 pitches for strikes, but Fedde avoided taking any damage despite putting runners in scoring position during the second, third, fifth and sixth innings. It's the fifth time in 13 starts this season that Fedde has issued at least four free passes, leaving him with a shaky 46:33 K:BB through 73.2 innings, but he still sports a respectable 3.54 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He'll try to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Quality start in loss

Fedde (3-5) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five. Fedde pitched well Sunday, delivering his first quality start in his last four outings. However, the Cardinals failed to provide much run support against Jacob deGrom on the other end in an eventual 8-1 defeat, leaving Fedde with his second straight loss. The 32-year-old right-hander sports a 3.82 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 44 strikeouts through 12 starts (68.1 innings) this season. Fedde is currently lined up for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers in his next outing.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Tagged with fourth loss

Fedde (3-4) took the loss in Monday's contest at Baltimore. He allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk over five innings with five strikeouts. The St. Louis right-hander generated a solid 14 whiffs out of 91 total pitches to tally his third outing with five or more Ks this season over 11 total starts. The Orioles lineup did most of their damage when center fielder Dylan Carlson cracked a three-run homer off Fedde in the fourth. Across 62.1 total innings, Fedde has pitched to a 3.90 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 39:26 K:BB. The 32-year-old is currently slated to make his next start at Texas this weekend.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Surrenders two homers

Fedde allowed four runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two in five innings versus the Tigers on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision. Fedde began by allowing a leadoff home run to Kerry Carpenter and the Tigers tacked on another run before the inning concluded. The deficit doubled in the third after Riley Greene hit a two-run blast two right, but Fedde was able to retire the final seven batters he faced after that. Fedde had allowed only three home runs all season heading into Tuesday, and he has now posted a 2.43 ERA on the road this season compared to a 5.20 ERA at home. The right-hander lines up for a potential bounce-back road start against the Orioles next week.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Walks four in no-decision

Fedde allowed three hits and four walks while striking out three over 5.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader. Fedde's control issues returned Wednesday after he pitched a six-hit shutout with no walks versus the Nationals last Friday. The right-hander didn't pay for his wildness in this start, which he finished with 93 pitches (51 strikes). Fedde lowered his ERA to 3.44, but his WHIP is elevated at 1.30, and he's not inspiring much confidence with a 32:25 K:BB over 52.1 innings. He's never been particularly reliant on strikeouts, but he's historically had trouble being any better than mediocre when carrying a BB/9 over 4.0. He's lined up for a tough matchup at home versus the Tigers next week.
