  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Walks six in no-decision

Giolito allowed four runs on five hits and six walks while striking out one over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday. Giolito hasn't had control problems this year, but he struggled to find the strike zone Saturday, landing just 55 of 97 pitches for strikes. The six walks were double his previous season high, but he's now allowed four or more runs in three of his last five starts. Giolito has a reasonable 3.77 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 82:33 K:BB through 100.1 innings over 18 starts this year, and his recent shaky performance can be chalked up to a tough run of opponents. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Marlins.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Goes eight innings in win

Giolito (8-2) earned the win Sunday over the Astros, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over eight innings. He struck out four. It was an excellent performance from Giolito, who went a season-high eight innings, with Houston's lone run coming on Carlos Correa's homer in the fourth. After a rocky start to his Red Sox tenure, Giolito has turned into one of Boston's more reliable starters, posting a 2.03 ERA over his last 10 outings (62 innings). Overall, the right-hander sports a 3.57 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 81:27 K:BB through 17 starts (95.2 innings) this season. Giolito is currently scheduled to face the Padres on the road his next time out.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Fans five in win

Giolito (7-2) allowed a run on five hits and two walks over six innings Tuesday, striking out five and earning a win over the Twins. Giolito rolled through four shutout frames before Minnesota scratched across a run in the fifth inning. He delivered a strong bounce-back outing after coughing up a combined nine runs over 9.1 innings in his previous two outings. He fired 61 of 101 pitches for strikes and forced 13 whiffs, including nine with his changeup. Giolito now owns a 3.80 ERA over 87.2 innings this season, but it's been a very up-and-down year; he's given up two earned runs or fewr in 10 of his 16 starts, but he's been tagged with five or more runs in four outings. Giolito is projected to face the Royals at home next week.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Shaky in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out two. That's now consecutive starts with at least four runs allowed by Giolito, who had been riding a six-game quality start streak before this recent downturn. The four innings and two punchouts were both the veteran right-hander's fewest since his June 4 outing versus the Angels. Giolito still holds a quality 3.97 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 72:24 K:BB over 81.2 frames, and he'll try to right the ship in Minnesota against the Twins the next time he takes the mound.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Hangs in after early trouble

Giolito (6-2) took the loss in Friday's 4-1 defeat against the Cubs, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks across 5.1 innings while recording six strikeouts. Giolito ran into trouble immediately Friday, issuing back-to-back walks and serving up a three-run homer to Seiya Suzuki before recording his first out. The right-hander recovered well from the rocky start, keeping the Cubs quiet over the next four innings before exiting in the sixth after surrendering a double to Ian Happ. Despite the tough outing, the 31-year-old has now registered at least five strikeouts in six straight starts and owns a 1.66 ERA with a 39:9 K:BB across 38 innings during that stretch. Giolito is slated to make his next start July 23 against the Phillies.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Blanks Rockies

Giolito (6-1) picked up the win Wednesday against Colorado, allowing four hits and no walks with six strikeouts over six scoreless innings. Giolito took advantage of a lackluster Rockies lineup, posting his fourth scoreless outing in his last five starts. During that stretch, he owns a 5-0 record and a sparkling 0.70 ERA across 38.2 innings. The streak has lowered his ERA from 6.42 to 3.36, which is where it'll stand entering the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Season-high workload in win

Giolito (5-1) earned the win against the Nationals on Friday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over 7.2 innings. Giolito allowed a run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning but was otherwise dominant, throwing 75 strikes on a season-high 108 pitches. It was the 30-year-old's deepest outing of the season, and he's now yielded just three total earned runs across five straight quality starts dating back to June 10. He'll take a 3.66 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 58:21 K:BB across 66.1 innings into a favorable matchup with the Rockies next week.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Tosses seven strong innings

Giolito (4-1) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing one unearned run on six hits and one walk while striking out five across seven innings. Giolito received plenty of run support from the Red Sox batters Saturday, and the extra rest between innings seemed to benefit the 30-year-old right-hander. He has logged four quality starts in a row and has given up only two earned runs over that span while striking out 24 batters in 25 innings. Giolito now sports a 3.99 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 51:18 K:BB across 58.2 innings this season. He's in line to face the Nationals on the road next weekend, when he'll look to make it three wins in five starts.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Posts sixth quality start

Giolito took a no-decision in Sunday's 9-5 loss at San Francisco, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five. The veteran right-hander survived conceding two unearned runs in the third inning but fumbled away a two-run lead when he allowed solo homers to Casey Schmitt and Mike Yastrzemski in the fifth. Despite the pair of long balls yielded, Giolito continued his recent solid run of performances, collecting his third consecutive quality start. Since a six-run disaster against Atlanta on May 17, the 30-year-old has been dependable, pitching to a 2.87 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 29:11 K:BB across 31.1 frames. Giolito is currently slated to face the Blue Jays in a home series next weekend.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Dominant in victory

Giolito (3-1) earned the win over Seattle on Monday, allowing three hits and issuing one walk while striking out 10 batters over six scoreless innings. This was arguably Giolito's finest start of the campaign, as he racked up a season-high 10 punchouts and tied a season low in allowing three hits. The veteran righty didn't surrender any extra-base hits and missed plenty of bats with 18 swinging strikes. Giolito has had three bad blowouts during which he's yielded six or more runs, but he's also allowed one run or fewer five times in nine total starts. He's given up just one run -- which was unearned -- and six hits across 12 frames over his past two appearances, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to be a road matchup in San Francisco.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito (2-1) got the win Tuesday over the Rays, allowing one run (zero earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings. Giolito bounced back from one of his worst starts of the season with one of his best. He finished with a season-high 13 whiffs, and his velocity was up a couple of ticks. It's been quite the up-and-down campaign for Giolito, as he's had three starts allowing six runs or more while also posting four outings allowing one run or zero. He's lined up to take the mound again next week against Seattle.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Chased early in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 11-9 win over the Angels, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. He struck out one. Six of the eight hits off Giolito went for extra bases, as the Halos put plenty of balls off -- or in Taylor Ward's case, over -- the Green Monster. It was the shortest outing of the season for the right-hander, with the seven runs allowed being a season high, and Giolito saw his ERA balloon from 4.78 to 6.42 as a result. He'll try to shake it off ahead of his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Decent results in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta after allowing one run on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out three. It was a respectable performance from Giolito, who kept the ball in the yard and didn't surrender any extra-base hits. The veteran right-hander has given up six runs on a pair of occasions this season, which has considerably damaged his ratios, and he's reached the fifth inning in just three of his first six appearances while posting quality starts in the other three. Giolito has a 4.78 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB over 32 innings, and he shapes up as a volatile fantasy option versus the Angels in his next scheduled outing.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito finished with a no-decision in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings. All six of the hits Giolito served up were singles, and the right-hander didn't let any runner reach third base. The veteran hurler completed seven frames for the first time this season and picked up his third quality start through five appearances. Giolito has alternated good and bad outings so far -- the quality starts have come in his first, third, and fifth appearances while he allowed a combined 12 runs over 7.2 frames in his second and fourth starts. He'll look to snap that trend the next time he takes the mound, which is lined up to be a road matchup in Atlanta.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Start postponed again

Giolito won't pitch Friday, as the second game of Boston's doubleheader against the Orioles has been postponed due to rain. Originally scheduled to pitch Thursday, Giolito will now presumably look to take the mound during Saturday's doubleheader after having his start rained out on back-to-back days. The 30-year-old righty will be looking to get back on track after posting a 7.08 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 20.1 innings across his first four starts.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Orioles-Red Sox game rained out

Giolito will not pitch Thursday after Boston's game against Baltimore was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Friday. Giolito will start the second of those games, while Brayan Bello will take the ball in the afternoon contest.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Earns first win

Giolito (1-1) earned the win against the Royals on Sunday, allowing one unearned run on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6.2 innings. Giolito threw 59 of 88 pitches for strikes and yielded just one unearned run, which came on his own throwing error in the third inning. The 30-year-old has now delivered two quality starts in three outings and rebounded nicely from Tuesday's six-run loss. He'll carry a 4.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 16.1 innings into a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Roughed up by Rangers

Giolito (0-1) yielded six runs on 10 hits and a walk over 3.2 innings Tuesday, striking out two and taking a loss against Texas. Giolito gave up just one run through three innings before the Rangers piled on five runs in the fourth. It was a big step back after producing a quality start with seven strikeouts in his season debut. Giolito threw 49 of 74 pitches for strikes and forced only six whiffs. He'll carry an 8.38 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to be in Kansas City this weekend.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: All set for Red Sox debut

The Red Sox activated Giolito (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Giolito is set to make his Red Sox debut Wednesday in Toronto after missing last season following an internal brace procedure on his right elbow and getting a late start to the 2025 campaign because of a left hamstring strain. The right-hander held a 5.19 ERA and 17:13 K:BB over 17.1 innings across five rehab starts. Giolito threw 85 pitches during his final rehab outing, so he should be able to handle a relatively normal workload versus the Blue Jays.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Makes final rehab start

Giolito (hamstring) allowed three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings for Triple-A Worcester on Friday. The six walks may jump out, but manager Alex Cora confirmed prior to the start that this would end the right-hander's time in the minors, per Henry Palattella and Brian Murphy of MLB.com. The more important number is Giolito's pitch count, which reached 85 in his fifth and final rehab outing. "He's pitching [Friday], and he should be with us in Toronto [next week]," Cora said Friday. Giolito is expected to make his season and Boston debuts Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
