  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Goes yard twice in matinee

Winn went 2-for-3 with two walks, two solo home runs and a stolen base in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Reds. The 23-year-old shortstop hadn't gone yard since he hit his first homer of the year April 7, but Winn crushed a Brady Singer sinker to left field in the first inning before capping a back-to-back-to-back set of long balls off Alexis Diaz in the ninth. Winn then went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in the nightcap. Since returning from back trouble about a week ago, he's gone 9-for-28 (.321) over the last eight games.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Hitting second Wednesday

Winn is starting at shortstop and batting second in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader in Cincinnati. Winn had been slated to hit in the two hole before Tuesday's game was rained out, and he'll remain there for the first game of Wednesday's twin bill. It's the first time this season he's batted anywhere other than ninth.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Homers twice in rehab game

Winn (back) cranked a pair of solo home runs in his second rehab game with Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. After starting at shortstop in his first rehab game Friday and striking out in all three plate appearances, Winn was in the designated hitter spot Saturday and went deep twice. Recovering from lower-back spasms, Winn remains on track to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Cleared for rehab assignment

Winn (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Winn has ramped up his baseball activities this week and is ready to test things out in a game setting. Barring a setback, he is on pace to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday. Winn has missed nearly a week of action with lower-back spasms.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Begins baseball activities

Winn (back) played catch Tuesday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Winn was cleared to begin baseball activities four days after landing on the 10-day injured list with lower-back spasms. A target date for his return should become available as he continues to ramp things up. Brendan Donovan and Thomas Saggese have been handling shortstop for the Cardinals with Winn out.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Lands on injured list

The Cardinals placed Winn on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to lower-back spasms, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Winn believed he wouldn't need to spend time on the IL after exiting Friday's game early because of his back, but evidently, the Cardinals' front office disagreed. If his injury truly is minor, he should have a good chance to be activated when eligible April 22. Until then, Thomas Saggese will start regularly at shortstop. Winn's move to the injured list opens a roster spot for Nolan Gorman (hamstring), who was activated from the IL in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Expects to miss some games

Winn left Friday's game against the Phillies due to back spasms and said afterward that he will likely sit out a couple of games, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Winn was insistent that he won't need to spend time on the injured list, but he will need a few days off to give his back time to recover from an issue that has been bothering him for a few weeks. Whether the Cardinals' front office cooperates with the 23-year-old's request to stay off the IL remains to be seen, but either way, it seems like Thomas Saggese will be picking up a few more starts at shortstop.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Harder contact after swing tweak

Winn went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Angels but had a game-high three hard-hit balls. During a rain delay in Sunday's game against the Twins, Winn compared video from 2024 to 2025 and worked on his swing with hitting coaches Brant Brown and Brandon Allen, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. They noticed in the 2025 video that his hips were leaning back before his swing, which led to lazy flyballs. Winn stood more upright during batting practice Monday and worked on driving through the ball. While he wasn't rewarded during Monday's game, Winn was heartened by the hard contact he made and is confident "everything is going to click" for him soon. The 23-year-old is 0-for-14 with seven strikeouts in his first four contests this season.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Still batting ninth against lefty

Winn is hitting ninth again for the Cardinals on Monday versus Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson. Winn was in the nine spot for all three games against the Twins' righties in the opening series, and he will remain there Monday even as the Halos send a southpaw to the hill. The shortstop was just 4-for-50 at the plate during spring training and is still looking for his first hit of the regular season. The left-handed hitting Lars Nootbaar is again occupying the leadoff spot Monday.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Aiming to return Friday

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Winn (wrist) will get several at-bats in live batting practice Wednesday and will aim to return to the Grapefruit League lineup Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Winn had to be scratched from the St. Louis lineup Tuesday due to right wrist soreness, but the move was considered precautionary and it sounds like he should be back in game action soon. The young shortstop has struggled at the plate this spring, going 4-for-41 with a 12:3 K:BB.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Scratched due to sore wrist

Winn was scratched from Tuesday's Grapefruit League lineup against the Marlins due to soreness in his right wrist, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals are saying the move is precautionary, so it seems for now that Winn is merely day-to-day. Jose Barrero has entered the lineup in Winn's place.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Scuffling at plate this spring

Winn went 0-for-3 with one strikeout in Wednesday's game versus the Mets and is now hitting .094 with a 10:3 K:BB this spring. Winn struggled last year in Grapefruit League play, too, with a .638 OPS and no home runs, before going on to have a solid rookie season in which he had 15 homers and 11 steals with a .730 OPS. He has batted leadoff in every one of his starts this spring and appears poised to hit at the top of the order for the Cardinals on Opening Day.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Has cyst removed from hand

Winn underwent surgery following the conclusion of the season to have a cyst removed from his hand, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. It's not clear which hand was operated on, but it was a minor procedure which is not expected to affect his offseason workouts. Winn slashed .267/.314/.416 with 15 homers and 11 stolen bases over 150 regular-season games in his first full major-league season.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Sitting in finale

Winn is not in Sunday's lineup against the Giants. Thomas Saggese will get the start at shortstop in Winn's place, batting seventh. Winn wrapped up the regular season riding a seven-game hitting streak, batting .313 (10-for-32) during that stretch with seven extra-base hits (five doubles, a triple and a homer).

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Lifts 14th homer

Winn went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Pirates. Winn has gone 8-for-34 (.235) with two homers (both solo shots) and a stolen base over his last eight games. He's picked up extra rest in September after playing nearly everyday for most of the second half. The shortstop is at a .271/.318/.411 slash line with 14 homers, 11 steals, 51 RBI and 75 runs scored through 141 contests this season.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Not starting Sunday

Winn is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Toronto, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Thomas Saggese will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Blue Jays right-hander Yariel Rodriguez. Winn has slashed .160/.192/.280 with one home run and three RBI over 52 plate appearances in September.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Opens scoring with homer

Winn went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Reds. Winn opened the scoring with a solo shot in the third inning off Jakob Junis. The long ball was Winn's first extra-base hit in six games, and this was also his first multi-hit effort since Sept. 1. The shortstop is now up to a .272/.320/.411 slash line with 13 homers, 50 RBI, 72 runs scored and 11 stolen bases over 136 contests this season.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Picks up steal in win

Winn went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Reds. Winn was in the lineup for nearly a month straight before receiving a day off Tuesday. He's batting just .114 (4-for-35) in September, adding two walks and 12 strikeouts over eight games this month, though the slump has yet to cost him his spot atop the order. The shortstop is at a .271/.319/.406 slash line with 11 steals, 12 home runs, 49 RBI and 70 runs scored over 135 contests this year.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Day off Tuesday

Winn is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. Winn had started every game since Aug. 12 but will receive a day of rest in the series opener. Thomas Saggese will play shortstop in Winn's place and bat seventh in his major-league debut.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Back in action Monday

Winn (illness) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Monday's game versus the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Winn didn't play in Saturday's game versus the Royals because he was under the weather, but he's back in the lineup following a rare team off day on a Sunday. The rookie shortstop will carry a .746 OPS into the series opener in Cincinnati.
