  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Smacks another home run

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Rays. Goldschmidt was the man responsible for all of Friday's scoring, belting a three-run shot off Mason Montgomery in the fifth inning. Goldschmidt is up to three home runs on the season, two of which have come in back-to-back games. He's recorded at least one hit in five of his last six games, going 8-for-23 with six runs scored and seven RBI over that span.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Blasts solo homer Wednesday

Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Baltimore. Goldschmidt didn't have the most efficient performance from the plate, but he made up for it in the fifth inning with a solo shot to center field off Cade Povich. Goldschmidt has seven 30-homer seasons in his career but has just two long balls on the season. However, his 42 hits and .356 batting average rank second in the majors behind teammate Aaron Judge (50 hits and .427 average).

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Breather in Game 2

Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader versus Toronto. Goldschmidt will get a breather after he went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in the team's 11-2 win over the Blue Jays in Game 1. Ben Rice will replace him at first base, batting second against Toronto.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Three hits, two doubles in win

Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Cleveland. Goldschmidt has now hit safely in eight straight games, going 14-for-31 (.452) with a 1.030 OPS in that span. The veteran first baseman has gotten off to a blazing start with the Yankees, slashing .383/.433/.489 with a home run, 12 runs scored, nine RBI and a stolen base through his first 104 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Three hits in win

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Pirates. Goldschmidt flied out in the first inning but reached base in each of his subsequent plate appearances. So far, he's hitting an impressive .345 with a homer, three RBI and seven runs scored across 33 plate appearances. The veteran seemed to be on the decline after a career-low .716 OPS in 2024, but hitting atop a potent Yankees lineup could make him a bargain this season.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Getting day off Thursday

Goldschmidt is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks. It's the first day off this season for Goldschmidt, who had batted leadoff in each of the last four contests. Ben Rice will be at the top of the batting order and playing first base for the Yankees in Thursday's series finale.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Settling into leadoff spot

Goldschmidt will start at first base and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game versus the Diamondbacks. When Goldschmidt batted leadoff in the Yankees' second game of the season, the feeling was that it was only because the club was facing a left-hander. However, he has now remained at the top of the batting order in the two contests since then as well, and both of them have been against righties. The Yankees have scored a whopping 32 runs in two games with Goldschmidt in the leadoff spot, so manager Aaron Boone doesn't feel the need to switch things up. After hitting leadoff Opening Day, Austin Wells is batting sixth for the third game in a row.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Belts first homer as Yankee

Goldschmidt went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and three total runs Saturday in a 20-9 rout of Milwaukee. Goldschmidt set the tone for a record-breaking day for the Yankees with a leadoff homer off Nestor Cortes in the bottom of the first inning. That long ball was the first of three consecutive first-pitch homers New York hit to begin their half of the first frame and the first of nine the team belted overall in the game, setting a new franchise record. Of note, Goldschmidt batted leadoff Saturday, the first time he has done so in a big-league game.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: In Saturday's lineup

Goldschmidt (back) will start at first base and bat leadoff in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. Goldschmidt's return to the spring lineup comes one day after initially scheduled, but he now seems to be fully recovered from the back soreness that has been bothering him since Monday. The veteran first baseman has been great this spring, slashing .313/.389/.688 with three homers and 10 RBI through 36 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Expected back Saturday

Goldschmidt (back) said Friday that he expects to return to the lineup for Saturday's Grapefruit League game versus the Phillies, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Goldschmidt missed his target date to return, as he had hoped to play Thursday or Friday. However, he said his sore back is close to 100 percent and the decision was made to give it another day. Goldschmidt remains confident he'll be ready to go for Opening Day.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Remains out Friday

Goldschmidt (back) remains out of the Yankees' lineup for Friday's contest against the Tigers, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. Goldschmidt had targeted either Thursday or Friday for his return to Grapefruit League play, but that goal wasn't met. There's no cause for concern yet, as the Yankees are likely just exercising caution with the veteran first baseman. The club might have more on Goldschmidt's status later Friday.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Targeting Friday return

Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the team hopes to have Goldschmidt (back) back in the lineup Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Goldschmidt will participate in baseball activities Thursday, and if he manages to get through everything without a problem, he'll return to the starting nine Friday against the Tigers. The veteran first baseman has been great in the Grapefruit League this spring, going 10-for-32 with three homers, 10 RBI and seven runs scored in 13 games.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Expected back Thursday or Friday

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that he expects Goldschmidt (back) to return to the lineup Thursday or Friday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Goldschmidt had to depart Monday's Grapefruit League contest against the Blue Jays due to a sore back, which is an injury he'd been battling through for a few days. As long as the veteran first baseman avoids a setback, there's no worry about his Opening Day readiness.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Continues hot spring

Goldschmidt went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two total runs and four total RBI in a Grapefruit League victory against Detroit on Thursday. Goldschmidt belted a massive 447-foot solo homer in the fourth frame and added a three-run double in the following inning. The veteran first baseman is enjoying a productive spring, slashing .300/.323/.700 while tying for the team lead in home runs (three) and RBI (10). Goldschmidt posted a career-worst .716 OPS with the Cardinals last season, but he could benefit from a change of scenery in what will be his first campaign as a Yankee.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Signs one-year deal

Goldschmidt signed a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the Yankees on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The Yankees were left needing a first baseman after declining Anthony Rizzo's club option in November, and bringing in Goldschmidt will provide a short-term solution for 2025. The 37-year-old slashed .245/.302/.414 with 22 home runs, 65 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 154 games last year -- a sharp decline from his NL MVP campaign in 2022. That being said, fantasy managers may still be able to squeeze some value out of Goldschmidt, as he has rarely fallen short of the 20-homer mark in his 14-year career, and joining a lineup that also features Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger could boost his RBI and run totals.

  • Paul Goldschmidt: Will not be given qualifying offer

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed Monday that the team will not extend Goldschmidt a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer, John Denton of MLB.com reports. It's been reported previously that the Cardinals are also not expected to negotiate with Goldschmidt on a lesser salary, so the veteran first baseman will be allowed to depart as a free agent. Goldschmidt slashed just .245/.302/.414 with 22 home runs in 2024 and turned 37 in September, but he should still draw some interest from clubs willing to take a shot on a bounce-back year in 2025.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Three-hit effort in loss

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Giants. Goldschmidt made two outs in the contest, and he generated an RBI on each of those plays. One was a sacrifice fly and the other was a groundout. He's batting .250 (9-for-36) over his last nine games and now has a .245/.301/.412 slash line with 22 home runs, 64 RBI, 70 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and 32 doubles over 153 contests.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Smacks 22nd homer

Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 10-8 loss to the Rockies. Goldschmidt went back-to-back with Lars Nootbaar in the first inning. This long ball ended a 19-game homer drought for Goldschmidt, who hit just .197 (13-for-66) in that span. The first baseman is up to 22 homers on the year, but his .241/.299/.403 slash line represents career-low numbers across the board. He's added 62 RBI, 69 runs scored and 11 stolen bases across 152 games.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Posts another steal

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates. Goldschmidt had a pair of singles and was knocked in by Brendan Donovan both times for the Cardinals' lone runs of the game. After going 0-for-9 over four games from Sept. 14-17, Goldschmidt has bounced back a bit. The first baseman is now batting .290 (18-for-62) in September and has a .246/.303/.412 slash line with 21 home runs, 60 RBI, 27 runs scored and 11 steals over 146 contests overall.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Not starting Sunday

Goldschmidt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Goldschmidt will receive Sunday off after a stretch of 18 straight starts, during which he batted .391 with 10 doubles, two homers and 10 RBI. Alec Burleson will shift to first base while Luken Baker serves as the designated hitter in the series finale at Toronto.
