Draft Scouting Report
Dylan Sampson was a useful backup who saw 58 carries as a true freshman and 107 as a sophomore before earning a starting role as a junior when Jaylen Wright departed for the NFL last year. The undersized back held up well on 258 carries until a hamstring strain sidelined him in the College Football Playoffs against Ohio State. He has the size of a back who plays in space yet was almost exclusively deployed between the tackles in Tennessee's counter/power heavy scheme. He fits the mold of the new wave of backs who are excelling throughout the league with maybe less than ideal size, but ideal agility to find the correct hole and continuously create positive gains.
- 2024: SEC Offensive Player of the Year after shattering school records for rushing yards (1,491) and rushing touchdowns (22)
- 2024: 70 forced missed tackles (one every four carries)
- Jitterbug with tremendous short-area quicks
- Confidence running in tight quarters. Willing to hit the hole with pace
- Real breakaway speed in open field
- Won't turn 21 years old until start of next season
- Very trim frame for a running back. Not much heft behind him
- Simplistic run scheme at Tennessee will do him no favors in NFL
- Difficult for him to move pile or churn runs between the tackles
- Vision can get narrow sighted on the frontside of runs
- Four fumbles as the lead back this past fall
- Bench press: 13 reps
- Vertical jump: 35 inches
- Broad jump: 10 feet, 4 inches

Browns' Dylan Sampson: Another back drafted by Cleveland
The Browns selected Sampson in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 126th overall.
The Browns had a significant hole at running back entering the draft, and they've invested accordingly. Sampson will join Quinshon Judkins -- selected in the second round -- as rookies on the running back depth chart. The former showcased mediocre athletic ability at the combine, but Sampson was an excellent contributor at Tennessee by tallying 1,491 rushing yards and 22 total touchdowns across 13 games in 2024 while facing stiff SEC competition. Both scouting reports and draft capital suggest Sampson will start behind Judkins on the depth chart, but Sampson should have the chance to find the field in his rookie season.
